356, mostly great.

Swimming is going well, I managed a 1,500m in the pool this morning, stopping now and then to catch my breath. My legs are far more buoyant than they have ever been before and my stroke count has been reduced by 3 per length. I have begun rotating my body through the water and increasing my arm stretch, I am sure there is a whole heap more I need to learn but at the moment it is looking good. Lesson 3 tomorrow PM.

Bike legs are regularly being used (roughly 50 - 60 miles per week), I am not exactly getting any faster or more effective but I am out and about in an opportunity I can, meetings, shops and even sneaky beer.

Now that only leaves running, well I am close to asking my legs to be removed. After the all clear from the GP and the rewarding imagery showing that my stress fracture is fixed I went out for a 2 mile gentle run. It resulted in waking up each morning with a stiff/ painful right foot and on the outside of my ankle a sharp pain... So I am resting... Again!

For the Ironman I am not fussed. However the Ballbuster is lurking (6 November) and i'd love to give it a proper go. Not a walk... cycle hard... walk effort...

384, tick tock.

It's been a good week, 2 bike rides, 2 open water swims and more importantly 3 runs (albeit individually they were just 1 mile). It will be a slow progress to build up strength and speed, but it feels just wonderful to run again.

Things I learnt this week.
• Double check the time your meeting with someone for an early morning bike ride.
• If it's hot don't forget your water.
• Saying hello to fellow road cyclists doesn't get a response.

389, the chiropractor has news.

Yes, yes, yes... 12 weeks recovery and I have the all clear to poodle out for a run...

So I popped out at the next opportunity and slotted in a nice slow mile, amongst a few crack, clicks and pops I managed it without any pain from the affected area. Phew.

I hope this could be a point I can now build on and see where it takes me.

Onwards and upwards.

390 days to go.

I decided that at some point i'd take part in an Ironman. In the back of my head I made an deal with myself that should do it before I get to 30 (currently I am 27).

A combination of a group of friends taking part and a short window of opportunity to get my place I find myself with my confirmation e-mail for the biggest event I have ever signed up for.

So where am I now?

Swimming. I am still learning, 4 or 5 times in open water in about as many years. Still coughing and spluttering every 8-10 strokes... And don't get me started in removing the blooming wetsuit.

Cycling. I am getting 60 - 70 miles in a week (mainly on-road), great fun without too much difficulty, cycling at the moment isn't my concern.

Running. Well due to a suspected stress fracture I have been out of running for 11 weeks now, constant appointments with my GP and chiropractor and I think I am finally turning the injury corner. Fingers crossed news tomorrow will tell me I can run again, phew!

So thats not a bad place to be 390 days out... Watch this space and I will post my adventure as it happens...

I'm off for a cup of tea.
